On the Eve of Christmas
During the winter holidays, Sunday school students took part in a drawing workshop on the theme “On the Eve of Christmas”. The purpose of this lesson was to introduce children to church and folk traditions of celebrating Christmas. More than two dozen children and teenagers took part in this exciting and dynamic workshop, organized by icon painters Ioann and Daria Gumeni.
We all know that Christ was born not in the royal chambers, not in a rich house, but in a cave where livestock was driven in bad weather. This birthplace of our Savior served as a subject for drawing for children aged 10 to 16. Younger children (6 to 9 years old) made Christmas cards. And the youngest participants painted wooden figures to decorate the Christmas tree..
At this workshop, we noticed that many children showed a special interest, and some even showed talent for drawing. Perhaps some of them will want to connect their lives with a brush and paints in the future, and learn to paint icons. After all, an icon is a book about faith. In the language of lines and colors, it reveals the dogmatic, moral and liturgical teaching of the Church.
We would like to once again thank our icon painters Ioann and Daria Gumeni for the wonderfully organized journey into the world of icon painting.
